Completed in 2003, Coyote House is Jack Chandler at his best. Beautifully situated in a private five-acre wooded canyon, the house snuggles into the surrounding landscape, looking very much at home in this classic Napa Valley setting. The sloping canyon provided Jack with the possibility of creating a terraced hillside garden, culminating in a shaded pergola, complete with a spring-fed grotto, the perfect spot for admiring the view beyond. Just the place for a Sunday hammock nap or an elaborate al fresco feast!

The 4000 square foot main house is an unusual combination of rather grand “public” rooms and cozy private spaces. The soaring dining and living rooms open effortlessly to the outside terraces, celebrating the indoor-outdoor living California does so well. Being a serious cook, Jack made sure the kitchen works both efficiently and aesthetically, whether you’re preparing a meal for two or twelve.  And then there’s the outdoor kitchen, complete with its poolside wood-fired oven, just the thing to really impress family and friends.

A few things not to miss: the rose-covered guest house (so appealing that guests don’t want to leave), the bocce ball court hugging the side of the pond, the private card room below the main house, and the XXX-pound bathroom sinks, custom-carved from single blocks of marble in Italy.

Noted as a landscape architect, building designer, and sculptor, Jack often blurs the lines between his considerable talents. Indoor spaces often feel sculptural, outdoor spaces act as rooms, while the landscape softens and contains it all in its own verdant world, delighting the senses at every turn.
